TOXIC FREE MAKEUP MAKEUP BAG MONDAY 42

Happy Monday! Today marks day 7 of my 21 day detox. One week down, 2 weeks to go. I’ll be talking more about the detox I’m doing soon on the blog as well as on my lifestyle channel, More Serein. Because I am taking a careful look at what goes into my body, I  want to take a look at what I put on it. I’ve always been curious of clean beauty and toxic free makeup. The cosmetics industry in the U.S. is loosely regulated and many ingredients are not even listed on the label, not to mention how many ingredients that are known toxins are allowed to be in our cosmetics while illegal in other countries.

Unfortunately, as consumers we have to do our own research and decide what we can live with or without. It’s up to us to be active about our own health by learning as much as we can about ingredients. This past week, I wanted to focus on toxic free makeup products for Makeup Bag Monday week 42. It seemed like the perfect timing. Our latest guest on the podcast is from Credo Beauty, quickly my new favorite beauty shopping destination for all things toxic free. Lisa talks about how to switch from traditional beauty products to clean, where to start and what to look for. You can listen to the episode here and below. While I am all about toxic free makeup, I am not willing to give up performance. So with that being said, I’m pretty happy with my toxic free makeup picks in last week’s makeup bag. Watch the full review video here.

WHAT IS MAKEUP BAG MONDAY?

Each week I rotate my makeup bag with new product launches and makeup from my makeup collection.  Originally this series started here on sereinwu.com, I have since moved it to my YouTube Channel. I am now bringing back Makeup Bag Monday on the blog! Come back every Monday for detailed makeup reviews and find out what I have selected for the upcoming week. MBM blog post will have closeup photos and true to life swatches to help with any of your shopping needs. Think of it as a readers digest to go along with the YouTube videos.

TOXIC FREE MAKEUP

If you have a hard time figuring out where to start when it comes to toxic free makeup, a place to begin with is to make sure your products are free from:

  • Phthalates (both dermatologists and clean beauty experts stress the importance of avoiding Phthalates)
  • Artificial fragrances (causes sensitivity and in many cases the company’s “secret sauce” completely unregulated)
  • Petrochemicals or mineral oils (personal preference, I find my skin does better without)
  • Parabens (another ingredient both dermatologists and clean beauty experts avoid. Keep in mind there are natural preservatives that are not harmful)
  • Animal Testing (not harmful to us, but let’s avoid it where we can and let’s be honest, why would a toxic free clean brand test on animals?)

MAKEUP BAG MONDAY 43

As I mentioned in today’s video, I’ll be retiring the series at 52 weeks indefinitely. Why? Because after a full year of Makeup Bag Mondays, I’d like to be able to switch up my makeup as I wish for awhile. Therefore if you have any themes you’d like me to cover in the last few weeks, let me know in the comments.

I never thought I’d commit to a full year of makeup rotation, but you guys loved it and it kept me going. Thank you so much for the support. This series and you have kept me on a schedule during the hardest year of my life. Now, I am not saying the series won’t be back, just that there will be a break. Don’t worry I already have two new series in the works for my channel.

With all that being said, here’s what’s coming for Makeup Bag Monday week 43. I will be testing out the new Jouer Cosmetics Summer Collection.

Make sure to come back every Monday to see how new products perform with detailed swatches and reviews.

Love this idea babe!! I think it’s so important to incorporate organic, non-toxic beauty products into our routines. Our skin absorbs most of what goes onto it, so having products that are chemical free is vital!! Also LOVE Jouer cosmetics… that eye shadow palette and those highlights look gorgeous 🙂
