April is Earth Month. A time to reflect on our impact to the planet and how we can take steps at conserving the precious resources. When Aveda reached out to me and asked if I would like to have an Aveda makeover in honor of Earth Month, I was thrilled. Aveda was one of the first professional salons I visited in high school. I lived for my the monthly Aveda facials and have been a long time fan of the products offered by Aveda. This past winter I rediscovered my love for the Aveda products with their shampoo, conditioner, and the Shampure Dry Shampoo. Aveda was kind of enough to schedule a full hair makeover with the Bokaos Salon in Pasadena. Hasblandy, the owner and all around #GirlBoss was welcoming, kind, and knew her hair. I’ve gone to the same hair stylist for over 15 years, so trying something new with a new stylist, was really stepping outside of my comfort zone, but hey! All for the blog post right? Aspen who assisted Hasblandy was amazing as well! We got along really well and she did the finish styling of the hair once Hasblandy colored and cut me. We decided to color the re-growth from my hair, add highlights, and then tone the color. I also had a nice steam session after the coloring to keep the integrity of my hair’s health. If you have brittle or dry hair and would like to go lighter, I highly recommend a steam session. My hair has never been softer, even hubs commented on how soft my hair is.
Before my makeover, you can see that my blunt bob has grown out quite a bit and so had the color. Talk about major roots! I’m currently in the process of growing out my hair a bit, so I didn’t want to take any length off, just give it some shape. My previous color was almost 4-5 months old. The painted highlight was defiantly grown out and a lot more subtle.

Before
After my color, steam treatment, cut, and blow out, I was thrilled to leave feeling like a new woman! Oh did I mention the yummy Aveda tea I was able to sip on the whole time, along with cookies, and a hand treatment? It was defiantly a full day of pampering. Everyone couldn’t have been nicer at the Bokaos Salon.

At first I was a bit shocked! I hadn’t styled my hair in months, the color was defiantly in need of an update, and I just was kind of feeling mediocre about my hair in general. When I saw the finished color, cut, and style, I was blown away. It didn’t look like me, but did. I felt like a new woman and I loved it. The color has defiantly been a dramatic change for me, but I think it’s perfect for spring and summer. With my new color, cut, and style, I wanted to preserve it for as long as possible. The next morning I used the Aveda Shampure Dry Shampoo at my roots to revitalize the volume and absorb any oils that might have build up overnight. What I love about the Aveda products was that even though they used a thickening tonic, brilliance, and smooth infusion before blow drying and styling my hair, it feels weightless and soft. I hate the feeling of product build up in my hair, especially when it’s sticky. These products worked beautify at creating a long lasting style with no build up. Honestly I only needed maybe 3 puffs of the Shampure Dry Shampoo for day 2. I actually love my style even more on the second day because it looks more lived in and a bit more me. I like to be carefully disheveled. If I am too polished, I don’t feel comfortable. My typical hair washing habit, is to wash my hair everyday. I know it’s awful and not good, but I just feel greasy if I don’t. So far I’m going strong on day 2 1/2 and will most likely make it to a full 3 days. The key with the Shampure Dry Shampoo, is shaking it up, lifting your hair and sneezing the bottle for a small puff of powder to come out. The powder smells fresh, a little minty, and absorbs any oils. I then take my fingers and tousle my hair a bit to work in the product as well as blend the powder. This also helps with adding volume. I’ve talked about the dry shampoo before on my YouTube Channel, but it’s just so good!
The benefits of using the Aveda Shampure Dry Shampoo? My shower is less than 5 minutes and saves water. With the draught situation in Southern California, every little bit helps! This earth month do your part, extend your style with the Aveda Shampure Dry Shampoo, buy recycled clothing, bring reusable bags to the store, walk instead of drive. Whatever small changes we can make, together we can protect the Earth’s resources for future generations.
What do you think of my new hair?
