Have you ever wondered if you have sensitive skin? Odds are if you’ve questioned your skin, you most likely have sensitive skin. Recently I partnered with Aveeno to visit Beverly Hills Dermatologist Dr. Chipps to ask her all my sensitive skin questions from how do I know if I have sensitive skin to the best drugstore products for sensitive skin.
Today’s post is in partnership with Aveeno.

AVEENO ULTRA CALMING LINE
I was very excited to hear about the new additions to the ultra-calming line from Aveeno geared towards the most sensitive skin out there made with feverfew and oats. It was also perfect timing for me to test out the products since my skin had been irritated lately. Hazards of a beauty blogger.
Both Chris and I have a long history using Aveeno. For myself I started using Aveeno in college. The Positively Radiant brightening cleanser and daily moisturizer with Broad Spectrum SPF 30 were my go to products for years. Chris has been using Aveeno for over 20 years! Yup… I cannot get him to try anything else. When we travel, he ALWAYS brings his Aveeno and if he forgets or his travel bottle runs out, we have to pick it up at the local drugstore. He cannot live without his Aveeno moisturizer.

BASICS OF SENSITIVE SKIN
Thanks to Aveeno, I was able to get some one on one time with Dr. Chipps to ask her all my skincare questions. Hopefully you caught a bit of it on the Aveeno Instagram Stories, but if not, here’s an overview of our conversation.
Q: HOW DO YOU KNOW YOU HAVE SENSITIVE SKIN?
A: Typically sensitive skin gets red easily or is blotchy and red. Sometimes it gets dry and flakey, can be itchy, and prone to breakouts.
Q: IF YOU HAVE SENSITIVE SKIN SHOULD YOU STILL EXFOLIATE?
A: Most patients with sensitive skin can’t exfoliate because they can get really red or dry and irritated. So for sensitive skin, it’s better to wash with a gentle cleanser and moisturize. The Aveeno Ultra Calm cleansers with feverfew are very calming because feverfew is anti inflammatory and full of antioxidants.
Q: WHAT ARE INGREDIENT WE SHOULD AVOID IF YOU HAVE SENSITIVE SKIN?
A:: Avoid harsh ingredients, washing with hot water, harsh cleansers, and fragrances (any added scents).
Q: WHAT’S THE BIGGEST MISCONCEPTION ABOUT SENSITIVE SKIN?
A: Patients with sensitive skin sometimes think they should apply more products, but really you should simplify your products and skincare routine. Don’t use hot water, find a gentle cleanser with anti-inflammatory and calming ingredients. Aveeno uses oats and feverfew which are both calming and anti-inflammatory.

BEST DRUGSTORE PRODUCTS FOR SENSITIVE SKIN
After years of using Aveeno and with both Chris and I having sensitive skin we both trust Aveeno products for their calming and gentle skincare plus it’s affordable! Here are some of our favorites products from Aveeno.
Aveeno Ultra Calming Foaming Cleanser $7.99 shop here
My skin was red, itchy, dry, and blotchy from over testing products. When I started using this cleanser, my skin immediately felt soothed. Within a few days I noticed a significant improvement in texture and redness. I also love the foam texture of this gentle cleanser.
Aveeno Ultra Calming Nourishing Night Cream $16.99 shop here
I rarely use night cream because I had heard how it can block your skin’s natural recovery and turn over at night, but Dr. Chipps assured me that I needed a gentle, fragrance free night cream to help with my redness and dryness. My skin was irritated and needed the nourishing and calming ingredients of this cream.
Aveeno Ultra Calming Daily Moisturizer $16.99 shop here
I love how this daily moisturizer protects and soothes irritated skin. A physical sunblock with SPF 30 is perfect for everyday use. I’m also a fan of the packaging because it comes in a pump that can lock easily for throwing in your gym bag or travel case.
If you have sensitive skin I would start here and as your skin balances out you can try incorporating different products into your routine, but for me when my skin acts up less is more and you’ll definitely want to avoid any added fragrances.
WHAT’S YOUR SKIN TYPE?
I know I talk a lot about my skin type and skincare issues, but what is your skin type? What are some of your questions? Dr. Chipps was interested in coming on as a guest of the podcast to answer some of your questions, so definitely leave them in the comments below if you have any. I want to thank Aveeno for working with me on this blog post and putting me in contact with Dr. Chipps. It's always wonderful to learn from professionals.
