Why Homemade Chocolate Chip Cookies?

In a world filled with store-bought snacks, there's something truly special about homemade treats. Not only do you have control over the ingredients, but the aroma that fills your home as these cookies bake is simply unbeatable. Plus, who can resist sinking their teeth into a warm, gooey chocolate chip cookie fresh from the oven?

My first journey into truly baking from scratch began in 2005, living in New York City. I’d decompress from my days by teaching myself how to bake my favorite desserts from scratch.

This was before I could easily ask the internet what  “cream the butter” meant. One of my first recipes I tried was a chocolate chip cookie.

Homemade Chocolate Chip Cookies Recipe

Ingredients You'll Need:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until well combined.
  5. Gently fold in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed throughout the dough.
  6. Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, drop rounded balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving enough space between each cookie for spreading.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.
  8. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Tips for Perfect Homemade Chocolate Chip Cookies Recipe:

  • Make sure your butter is softened but not melted for the ideal cookie texture.
  • Don't overmix the dough once you've added the flour mixture; this can result in tough cookies.
  • For extra indulgence, sprinkle a pinch of sea salt on top of each cookie before baking for a delightful sweet and salty contrast.
  • Store any leftover cookies in an airtight container to maintain their freshness.
  • Remember quality in ingredients matter! I've linked my favorites.
