By now we all know traditional deodorants are filled with parabens, aluminum compounds, silica, triclosan, talc, propylene glyco, and more, are incredibly harmful to our bodies, but we continue to depend on them because what’s more embarrassing than body odor? Today’s post I talk about some of my favorite natural deodorants that are not harmful to the body. I’ve been on the hunt for a natural deodorant since about 2005 I have started to wear a natural deodorant. Growing up very active and working in the entertainment industry, personal hygiene was always on my mind. You never wanted to be the smelly kid in dance or on set.
My first natural deodorant I ever purchased was the solid rock version of this Crystal roll-on deodorant pictured. This was a dry lump of rock crystal salt that you wet under the faucet and apply to the underarms. There was no fragrance to it at all and it did not leave streaks on clothes. I loved the crystal rock deodorant and later transitioned to the roll on version. It was a lot easier to reapply on the go when there was not a bathroom near by. The other flavors of the Crystal deodorant did not work for me. I recommend purchasing from Whole Foods and keeping your receipt incase you decide to try different flavors and you find this problem as well.
Up until 2015, the Crystal Roll-On worked wonderfully for me. I would apply it in the morning and be good for most of the day. If it was incredibly hot or I was very active, I would reapply, but for the most part I stayed odor free and happy. For some reason this past year, it stopped working for me. They do say that your body chemistry changes as you age and I have defiantly noticed signs of it. My skin, allergies, immune system, digestion, everything has started to change the past year. With my body’s change, I had to start looking for a new natural deodorant. Frankly I started to stink and I did not like it!
The LAVANILA deodorant in vanilla coconut was the first to work for me. Now I stress to try the vanilla coconut vs. plain vanilla or vanilla lavender. My mistake was trying the other two first. I was a stinky mess. For some reason the vanilla coconut mixture is able to keep me relatively odor free, but I do have to reapply often and this will not cut it on blistering hot days. The natural ingredients create a wonderful warm scent. I really love how you can read every ingredient from LAVANILA, truly a great brand. I recommend their body butters as well.
Last month I ordered meow meow tweet deodorant in grapefruit and lavender. I have to say I am quite happy. At first I was a little put off by the application method. You have to use your hands to rub in the product, but I quickly got over it when I saw how well it worked. This is probably the most affordable and effective natural deodorant I’ve tested in the past year. I like that they offer small 1 0z. jars to sample before committing to the 2.4 0z. The smaller jars are also great for travel. I started with the grapefruit scent and I’ve loved it everyday. This might sound weird, but I look forward to applying this in the mornings. So far I have not had to reapply the product thought the day for it to continue to work. We’ve been having pretty warm weather here in L.A. lately, so it’s been tested.
My all time favorite natural deodorant is from Whish and they are deodorant swipes. The reason I don’t use these everyday anymore is because it can be quite costly. Currently the Whish deodorant swipe is only offered as a swipe in a box of 8 for $7 or 30 for $22 (I just check the website and they now have a solid gel for $18, will have to test out soon). These deodorant wipes are great for travel, long days, or extreme heat. The formula also has a hair growth inhibiter! I have found this to be the longest lasting and most effective natural deodorant to I’ve tried.
Natural Deodorant Tips
- If you are trying to transition to a natural deodorant for the first time, your body will most likely need to get use to it, so you will smell for a week or so.
- Try to start the transition when you are able to avoid being too close to co-workers etc.
- Be patient, give yourself a full week before deciding.
- Have you tried natural deodorants? What are your favorites? I would love to know!

I hadn’t heard of Consonant either so that’s now on my list to try. I used aluminum based deodorant for most of my life without a problem, but a couple of years ago I had a nasty reaction and rash. I used Aromaco from Lush for a while. It was okay. The crystal didn’t work for me. I’m currently using a combo of Lavanilla with The Greeench from Lush on top. Reviews on Consonant seem good so I have high hopes!

I need to try the Lush deodorants, thank you so much for sharing and reading!
I’m currently testing a bunch of natural deodorants for my YouTube channel/blog and so far the Kiss My Face Liquid Rock deodorant is the only one that doesn’t make me feel like a smelly mess.

Wonderful post! I have tried many natural deodorants, including Lavanila, and nothing worked well enough. Then I found Consonant Skincare Dealkalizing Deodorant and all I can say is WOW! It does what it claims. No more odors. I mean NONE at all. You can find Consonant online at their site but I picked mine at Sephora. It really is incredible and I recommend it to anyone.

WOW! Okay thank you so much for sharing! I had no idea about this brand and that it can be found on Sephora is a HUGE plus for me, especially since I am there like every other day :-p Thank you so much for reading!
I love this post Serein! I’ve only learnt about natural deodorants in the last few months probably from watching your videos actually. Since going cruelty free replacing my deodorant has really been a struggle. So far I’ve only tried one natural deodorant from a brand called Jason but it’s the type you can only really use if you’re just lounging around the house not being very active so I can’t use it day to day. I’m going to try to get my hands on the meow meow deodorant you mentioned as that sounds like a nice one. Hope you’re having a lovely weekend! xx

Hi Jordana- Thank you so much for reading, watching, and commenting! I have tried Jason, and completely agree with you on it really being a lounge around kind of product. Give meow meow tweet a try or the Whish beauty swipes. Hope you had a wonderful weekend and a great week so far!
grapefruit and lavender are my favourite scents!I have never used natural deodorant but I’m starting to think about whether to try!

Defiantly give it a try! So much safer to use.
So informative. I’ve tried natural before but haven’t given it a chance. Between sports and daily life, I begin to worry if I smell or not! I should really give it a few weeks!

It can be difficult in the begging, but defiantly try and give your body time to adjust and detox from all the chemicals that you might typically be using to prevent perspiration. I used an essential oil as well to distract from any possible odor. Thank you so much for reading!
Great post, I was thinking about natural deodorants and have looked at all of these, so I’m glad to hear your thoughts 🙂

In our country there are a lot of natural deodorant but usually the one using them is 40’s and up 10’s 20’s and 30’s tend to use the regular ones. But when it comes to hair products my family uses all organic shampoo and conditioner sometimes we would even make one using ginger and lemon ^_^ the meow meow tweet deodorant is interesting I want to try it and Ingrid Nilsen is also raving about it.
