Every year I like to evaluate the past year. My achievements, my failures, disappointment, the roles I play. What were my goals? How did they shift? Where are my priorities now? What do I want for myself this year? These are all questions I have learned to ask myself from The Best Year Yet. I first discovered the book about 4 years ago with my good friend Sarah. We had finished the Artists Way together and started meeting every week to discuss our goals and help each other stay on track. The Best Year Yet has changed my life dramatically. When I had first started The Best Year Yet, I was incredibly unhappy with myself and where my life was headed.
After spending hours going through the book my first time, I set very specific goals for the coming year. With the help of Sarah, we were able to meet up every week to discuss our goals, what we had achieved the past week, and what we needed to focus on the coming week. Many times we had to remind each other how much of what was achieved. We both tend to discredit our own achievements. The book led me to where I am today and what my blog has become. Without The Best Year Yet, I would not have taken control of my life and found YouTube. Now this is not a fix all. I still struggle with depression, anxiety, and major mood swings. The book has helped me create a specific set of goals and a better understanding of myself, which help guide me each year. Think of it as a detailed road map that helps guide you back to your destination when you have taken a detour.
This Year, I tried the new online format. I highly recommend the online version for those looking for a bit of a quicker and easier way to follow along with the book. If you can, I urge you to pick up the physical book to read through and write all over. I find that even if I do not achieve all my goals each year, I have made improvements and learned more about myself. I achieve way more than I ever imagined I would and have prioritized my life in a way that makes me happy.
The last two years my major focus was getting to a place where I could become a full time YouTuber and blogger. While my focus was on creating a career I am passionate about, I let my health go down the drain. This year is about balancing my career and my health as well as being there for my family.
To kick start the fitness and diet goals, I have been trying the Fit Life Tea Detox. I love the taste of the tea since it reminds me of Starbucks Passion Fruit Tea. You can brew it hot or cold and it comes in beautiful tea bags that are sturdy and easy to travel with. You drink the tea twice a day for fourteen days. The kit also comes with a handy quick 20 minute at home workout and weekly meal plan to give you ideas on how to get fit. I love keeping these types of cards around for when I’m being lazy and just need a quick idea. Use “SWU25” for 25% off site wide.
I’ve also been following the Bikini Body Guides, unfortunately I got sick over the holidays, so I’m going to start the guide over again. The BBG app has been a huge life saver with the super easy to follow workout plan. For Christmas this year all I really wanted was a Fitbit Charge HR for monitoring my heart rate, steps, and diet. The app is super helpful and I can’t wait to start using it with my BBG workouts.
Make sure to check out my video below, where I discuss more about my goals and how I plan to achieve them this year.

What are your goals for the year? I would love to hear them in the comments section. Would you like more goal setting posts?

Serein, I would love more articles on setting and working toward keeping your goals. This year I was intentionally vague in my New Year goals so that I could get back on track without feeling like I had already failed. IE- walk as often as possible to rehab your leg and rebuild muscle, not walk 3-5 times per week for 30 mins. What do you think?

Hi Kathy-
I think it’s incredibly important to set specific attainable goals and figure out why you want to achieve those goals. I would highly recommend reading The Best Year Yet and/or checking out the online workshop. I think it would help clarify your goals for the year and how to set them for your needs and wants.
