Earlier this month I was lucky enough to attend an event for my favorite organic self tanner, Vita Liberata. I have tried many self tanners, spray tans, even professional tans, but Vita Liberata is my favorite on the market being an organic self tanner is just a bonus. This is an organic self tanner that does not sacrifice quality or luxury in any way. Vita Liberata has absolutely no self tanner scent, no alcohol, and no mineral oils. Lately I have been very picky about what I’ll use on my skin and I was happy to find that Vita Liberata is all natural and certified organic with no fillers or unnecessary ingredients. No wonder I’ve been such a huge fan for so long.
My Tips For Applying Organic Self Tanner
Before apply any self tanner, I like to exfoliate with a dry brush and detox body oil before stepping into the shower. When in the shower, I will do a thorough shave. Stepping out of the shower, I’ll pat dry and begin the self tanner application. Currently I am using the pHenomenal tanner, which can last up to 2 weeks. Using the Vita Liberata mitt, I apply the tinted mousse in upward strokes from toes to waist. I like to go over areas in the opposite direction to make sure there are no streaks. After an even application (easy to tell by the tinted mouse), I will wet a washcloth and wipe my feet, heels, toe nails, and ankles to remove any tanner. This offers the most natural fade without andy build up of product that can result in those obvious self tanner stains. If you are worried about any areas, go through with a wet wash cloth. The tanner dries very fast and I put on my clothes and go about my life. Personally with this tanner, I like to wear it overnight and rinse off in the morning. I find this lets the tanner develop the best. By the way, I have all white bedding, and this does not leave a mark. If you sweat in your sleep or are worried, try wearing a pair of light pajama pants to bed.
For the pHenomenal tan to last the longest, I like to apply the tanner 2-3 nights in a row. I don’t bother with dry brushing or shaving nights 2 and 3. I do apply a body oil or moisturizer in the mornings after I rinse off the tanner from the night before. Because Vita Liberata does not use alcohol in their self tanners, I find that I do not need to apply as much moisturizers to hydrate my skin. Isn’t that wonderful? Products that don’t cause you skin to become irritated or dry! It’s not as much effort as it sounds and the results are phenomenal, just like the name of the formula. Unlike most self tanners on the market, Vita Liberata fades beautifully, like a natural tan would. If you are concerned about fading, try the Body Blur to keep your tan fresh. Body Blur is also great for vacations and evenings out. It’s a quick body blurring, bronzer, that can be applied all over including the face. The body blur will last 24 hours. My favorite formulations, which I am currently out of is the Rapid Tan. The Rapid Tan develops in as little as 1 hour! Perfect for those who hate sleeping with self tanner on. 1 hour you’ve got a nice bronze glow, 2 hours, medium bronze glow, 3 hours, you just got back from a tropical vacation. The Rapid Tan does not last as long, but it’s my favorite because of how quickly it develops. I’m a bit impatient.
I am all about sun safety, but I do like a little color on me when the weather get’s warmer. First off, when I am a bit tanner, I look 10 lbs thiner. Also I bruise easily, so self tanner can help hide all the marks on my legs. Plus who wants pastry legs in short shorts and rompers? I just feel more confident when my legs have an even application of Vita Liberata on, so why not? Vita Liberata has been my go to self tanner for over a year now and I’m so happy they are natural and organic. Also NO SMELL! I hate that self tanner smell!
Do you self tan? What do you like to use?

I keep wanting to self tan but I know I can’t apply anything evenly! I thought for beginners, I would try the Jergens gradual tan moisturizer and after 2 applications, my hands were a completely different colour than everything else! I’ll keep practicing though – I’m sure I’ll eventually get the hang of it! 😛

The Jergens gradual tan actually streaks more than any self tanner I have tried! I’m not sure why, but I’ve had issues with gradual tans. Probably because it’s not tinted so you don’t really know if it’s even or not. I really do suggest a tinted mouse self tanner to make sure you apply evening and of course a mitt.
