STREET STYLE 2019 – HOW TO LAYER FOR FALL

Ah... the smell of pumpkin spice is in the air, the leaves are changing, and the kids are back in school. Social media is a buzz with fall vibes, but outside it’s still 90 degrees and trying to stay fashionable on a budget while practicing sustainability can be a challenge. Today I teamed up with adidas to share some street style 2019 ideas and how to layer for fall. Layering for fall is a great way to use what you already own.  Hope this post inspires you to reimagine your fall fashion.

The trick is to add a few key pieces to your wardrobe that will last from fall through spring because not only are we looking to get the most for our money, it’s a more sustainable way of consuming material goods in a very consumer driven world.

I find that allowing for a few well thought out purchases satisfies the need for treating oneself, but also the more thought out a purchase is, the longer they last and the more satisfaction the item brings over time vs. the instant gratification that fades all too fast with fast fashion habits.

1 hoodie, 2 looks

I love this adidas cropped hoodie in ash pearl/black. All the comfort of a hoodie, but the cropped silhouette makes it girly and still shows off your figure. Because it's still hot as balls out here in LA, I layered the cropped hoodie over a sports bra and paired it with denim cut offs for look number 1. Keeping it comfy and casual by wearing my adidas ultra boost in white.

This is something you'll catch me wearing on the daily for work or running errands. Casual and comfy and perfect example of basic ways to layer for fall. Also a simple way to create a street style 2019 look.

For my second look I paired the adidas cropped hoodie with biker shorts. As a child of the 80's and 90's I love the throwback vibes. Also super comfy and perfect from the gym to a coffee date or brunch. To elevate the entire outfit, I added a block heel bootie. Can we get any more street style 2019 than this?

More than a Windbreaker

This adidas celebrate the 90s windbreaker brought back all the middle school vibes for me. The perfect lightweight jacket to add a little edge to your fall style, but you know make it street.

Look like a fitness goddess by layering the windbreaker over a spots bra and biker shorts. Probably the most street style I'll ever wear. Pair it with booties to elevate the look and make it appropriate for outside of the gym. What I like about the windbreaker is that you can choose to leave it open to show off a little more skin or you can zip it up for a more conservative look.

The second way I like to style the windbreaker is throwing it over a light weight dress. The windbreaker now acts like a casual blazer and changes up a dress from your current wardrobe. How to layer for fall you ask? It's really that simple. My now linen spring/summer dress is transformed to a fall appropriate outfit. Pair with sneakers, docs, or boots, you can't go wrong.

I Didn't Try That Hard

This final look is the I didn't try that hard, but I tried look. I layered the cropped hoodie from looks 1 and 2 over a knitted long sleeve dress. By adding the hoodie, I've dressed down a rather formal dress and am able to get more from two pieces of clothing in my wardrobe. Bonus if you live in a colder climate, the layers will keep you warmer.

I also just love how the cropped hoodie gives more length to my legs when layered over the dress.

Which look was your favorite? Share with me in the comments and let me know what you'd like to add to your fall wardrobe this year.

I love the crop hoodie so much! I’d wear that with any denim. What I’ll be adding to my fall wardrobe this year is a black fitted blazer. I’ve been looking for one but so far none that fit me properly. It’s harder to find a nice one than I thought!

Keep looking for that perfect blazer! I finally found mine last year and love it I got mine from Madewell. Also don’t be afraid of getting a piece tailored to fit you the way you want.

I’m always looking forward to your new posts. Layering and mixing and matching your clothes make amazing new looks indeed. I love long plain dresses because they’re very flexible when it comes to mixing them with other clothes in the closet.
