Use What You Have First

Do you ever have the urge to browse the beauty aisle? Mindlessly scroll online for the latest and greatest skincare and makeup? Well I do and it’s a problem.

Recently I found myself constantly wanting to buy the latest viral beauty product because of all the promises from TikTokers, Influencers, and the such.

While I’ve become pretty savvy and immune to traditional marketing, influencers still get me. As an influencer myself, I should know better, however it still sucks me in. That’s why influencer marketing is so effective!

Over the last few years I noticed myself slipping from all the good habits I developed during my No Buy Year.

No Buy July

So I decided it was time for a little refresh and embarked on a no buy month during July. This isn’t as strict as my No Buy Year, but it does the job.

One of the biggest concerns for me is to use what I have first!

Oftentimes I can excuse a new beauty purchase as a work expense, but the truth is I shop beauty mostly for instant gratification. Because life can be a bit of a downer sometimes, I think this new viral lip product will change everything.

Like one beauty product can solve all my problems. That’s what they want you to think, but the truth is no product can change your life.

Therefore use what you have first. I talk a lot about how I have to fight certain disordered thoughts about hoarding or saving products in today’s video.

Use It, or Lose It

The reality is beauty products have a shelf life and there’s no reason to collect or save products. If you love something, use it and enjoy it. You can always find it again or if not, there will always be another product you’ll fall in love with.

Summer Skincare I Used Up

In honor of No Buy July, my focus was to use up what I loved and already have.  Here are all the recent summer skincare products I used up. Some were my favorites and it was hard to pump that last pump, but there’s also a satisfaction to using a product up.

Omoraviza The Cure skin care treatment Serein Wu
Omoraviza The Cure 9 day skin care treatment summer skin care

Omorovicza The Cure 9 Day Ampule Program $283

What It Does:

A very pricey skin care treatment that supposedly helps reset the skin.

The Gist of It:

After using the full 9 day program, I was a little disappointed. At a luxury price point there wasn’t anything the ampules did that I could not have achieved with a regimented skin care routine.

Verdict:

skip it and get a professional facial treatment

Shiseido - Tsubaki - Premium Repair Hair Mask Summer Skin Care

Shiseido - Tsubaki - Premium Repair Hair Mask about $12

What It Does:

A moisturizing hair mask that repairs damaged and dry hair.

The Gist of It:

One of my favorite if not favorite hair masks I’ve ever used. This mask makes your hair feel fluffy, soft, and shiny without the weigh down. There is a fragrance that lingers, but as someone who is highly sensitive to fragrances, this one doesn’t bother me. It's a must for summer skin care because of the UV damage our hair endures in the hotter months.

Verdict:

Will definitely be repurchasing this as soon as I use up my stash of hair masks.

Naturium Bio-Lipid Restoring Body Lotion review summer skin care

Naturium Bio-Lipid Restoring Body Lotion $15

What It Does:

This body lotion works to restore skin's natural barrier for soft and supple looking skin. Formulated with omega fatty acids, shea butter, B vitamins and sodium PCA, this lotion moisturizes skin and absorbs quickly with no greasy residue.

The Gist of It:

So simple and so good! Does everything it claims to and more. The perfect summer skin care body lotion.

Verdict:

Will definitely be repurchasing this as soon as I use up my stock of body oils, body butters, and lotions.

Summer Fridays Summer Skin Body Lotion summer skin care review

Summer Fridays Summer Silk Nourishing Body Lotion $27

What It Does:

A body lotion with plant-derived butters, natural oils, and ceramides that melts into your skin for all-day hydration.

The Gist of It:

It’s okay, no regrets, but not in love. There’s a soft coconut, vanilla scent. The packaging isn’t as convenient as a tub or pump. Absorbs nicely, just not worth $17 IMO.

Verdict:

Happy I tried it, but probably won’t re-purchase.

billie shave cream review

Billie Shave Cream $8

What It Does:

A cushiony shave cream designed so that your razor floats over your skin for an ultra-gentle shave.

The Gist of It:

A pretty underwhelming shaving cream. It offers some protection against a razor, but not anymore than a body wash, conditioner, or soap.

Verdict:

Don’t recommend and won’t be buying.

Naturium Retinol Complex Serum Summer Skin Care

Naturium Retinol Complex Serum $20

What It Does:

Advanced retinol serum is formulated with a photostable, synergistic blend of encapsulated retinol, a natural bio-retinol and bakuchiol, a plant-derived retinol alternative, that helps over time improve the look of fine lines, wrinkles, topical elasticity, and uneven tone while also promoting overall visual radiance for the face.

The Gist of It:

This is the retinol for all, especially anyone timmid with retinol or who has sensitive skin. I was able to use this every day during the summer months and it was the perfect summer skin care because it gives you all the benefits of retinol with moisturizing properties so you can use it as an all-in-one.

Verdict:

Absolutely recommend and will purchase.

Moisturizing Marula Body Scrub by Reed + Gwen

Reed + Gwen Moisturizing Marula Body Scrub $42

What It Does:

Exfoliating and conditioning - rose clay and cane sugar body scrub polishes and invigorates while gently buffing away dead skin cells to reveal a perfectly supple skin. Silky marula oil calms and soothes skin. Made in California with domestic and globally sourced ingredients.

The Gist of It:

A luxurious body scrub that exfoliates and leaves a light moisturizing feel on the skin. No issues with the product. No longer available for sale. Doesn’t replace my all time favorite body scrub from LATHER

Verdict:

Not my first choice of body scrubs, but would purchase.
