Another week, another Makeup Bag Monday. A series where I test out makeup products new and old from my makeup collection. This series helps me decided if I still love a product, rotate my makeup collection (beauty blogger problems) and review new product launches after a considerable amount of usage. So far in week 10, I’ve learned that I am quite fickle, things I once loved, are beat out by new launches with better ingredients and technology. However, I have also learned my tried and true, are holy grails for a reason. See fickle. While I might have purged a few items, many were repurchased after missing them from my collection. Because I am constantly testing new products, I rarely go through my favorites before they expire. If you follow me on snapchat (sereinwu) you’d see me pick up my very expensive, but totally worth it concealer form Cle De Peau. Life just hasn’t been the same the last few months without this baby. There is a reason it’s a favorite among many. I find mine lasts well over a year. The shelf life is 2 years, so I figure spending $75 on one of my tried and true favorites, isn’t too bad. I didn’t know how much I loved Cle De Peau concealer till it was missing from my life. Last week was full of summer makeup items perfect to achieve that natural fresh face look for warmer weather, this week I decided to rotate in a few new summer makeup purchases, again you might have had a sneak peak on my snapchat if you follow me there (cough… go follow me, there’s giveaways on there as well). But first, let’s wrap up last week. (read last week’s Makeup Bag Monday here)
Lasts Week’s Summer Makeup Picks
Zoeva Cocoa Blend Eyeshadow Palette $49.50
Such a great palette! If you can get your hands on it, do it. The palette is a beautiful warm neutral collection, with high-quality, richly pigmented eyeshadows. The longevity of the shadows are great as well and last all day with or without a primer. I personally always at least wear a concealer on the lid before eyeshadow. The shadows blend beautifully. As far as versatility, I found myself using bitter start, substitute for love, pure ganache, and freshly toasted for everyday. To deepen the look, I would add subtle blend to the outer corner for events or filming. Overall it’s a great palette at a decent price (it’s a lot more affordable in the UK vs the US, US price listed above).
Boscia B.B. Cream $38
This is a great easy to use B.B. cream, no complaints. The shade match technology is great if you need a sheer base in-between seasons. This would be great for summer vacation as you are bound to catch a little color. I like that it’s a physical SPF, but remember to reapply frequently and generously if you are out in the sun. Need help with SPF? Watch my Ultimate Guide to SPF Video here.
Benefit Air Patrol $29
I was quite impressed with this eye lid primer. It has an SPF 20, which is great for the summer time and it offers a great base for eyeshadows. The packaging has a few flaws in my opinion. The cap is really hard to get on and off, most of the time I found that I hadn’t fully capped the product. I’m not crazy about the rubber applicator. I just end up clicking the product out and using my fingers to apply it on the lid. Overall the product itself is great and it does the job of an eyeshadow primer as well as offer sun protection, so defiantly give it a try.
Benefit Puff Off $29
This on the other hand I found to be a bit gimmicky. I think the product is alright, absorbed nicely under the eyes, but didn’t seem to do much for me. The applicator is cool to touch, which would be beneficial for de-puffing, but a bit awkward to use with product. I don’t hate it, just not life changing for me.
Soleil Tan De Chanel $48
Believe it or not, I bought this almost a year ago! Never used it and finally pulling it out. I have to say after a little bit of a struggle as to how to use it, I love the product. It’s a beautiful sheer bronze glow that looks great over or under base makeup. I like to use it over for it’s full glow power. You could also use this under for a subtle sheen and bronze. It’s very fluid, so I recommend putting the product on the back of your hand, using a finger to dab on the liquid, finally taking a buffing brush or blush brush and blending the product in. Quite a pricey item that is not necessary, but oh so pretty and who doesn’t love a little Chanel on their counters?
Many asked on Instagram (@sereinwu), if I like this or the original Soleil Tan De Chanel more. I have to say I prefer this one. The original Soleil Tan De Chanel (cream mousse) to me is a matte mousse bronzer that you apply with a muddier tone. This liquid version, is defiantly warmer, adds radiance, and can be used as a highlight.

You should use your artist brush oval 4 for the Soleil Tan De Chanel I think you will love the finish even more ^_^ I think that artist brushes works well with cream products. I also think that Estee Lauder made summer fun with there Estee Edit Line.

Great post Serein! I’m very interested in reading your feedback about Hourglass Illume Sheer Color Trio in Sunset and The Estee Edit The Edgiest Up & Out Double Mascara. I loved your best summer foundations video! I just had a question about the Match co foundation. Do you think it’s a good foundation for oily skin? Thanks

With oily skin, I always say find your perfect mattifying primer. No matter what you have to prep the skin for foundation. Now that being said, Match Co has been great for me and I have combo skin to the extreme. I would give it a try, you can always return it if you are unhappy. Try it with a mattifying primer and a good setting powder, an oily girls best friends. I find that because it has good hydrating ingredients, my skin doesn’t actually get as oily. Oily skin is due to your skin thinking it needs to produce more oils to hydrate the skin, over active sebum. So, oily skin needs to find balance by hydrating the skin. Using drying products will actually cause more oils to be produced. Hope this helps!
I need to start breaking out my chocolate bar palette too! Let us know how you like the Estee Edit mascara!
